Voith Paper: Voith Sulzer Paper Technology: Extraordinary Results at Munkedal's PM 8 At the beginning of August 1999, the rebuilt PM 8 at Munkedal AB, Sweden, was started up successfully. Within two days of the start-up of PM 8, Munkedal achieved optimum paper quality. Project Manager Reino Kinnunen: "The machine is running like a dream." The Swedish company placed the order for the supply of a ModuleJet™ headbox, fourdrinier section and a DuoFormer D with Voith Sulzer Paper Technology, Heidenheim, Germany, in December 1998. PM 8 has a wire width of 4600 mm and attains a maximum operating speed of 1000 m/min. The product range produced on PM 8 includes uncoated woodfree and wood-containing printing grades with a basis weight range of 60-150 g/m². The main targets of the rebuild were reached within a very short time period. The paper quality was optimized with regard to formation and cross profiles. Due to the flexibility of the ModuleJet™ headbox and the DuoFormer D, Munkedal also attained a reduction in grade and basis weight change time. All in all, the PM 8 rebuild leads to an increase of Munkedal's competitiveness. |
