“Q 1” stands for the ability to deliver quality – quality of the highest degree. All in all, there are three test stages at Deutsche Bahn, depending on the individual product and the required quality standard. As a Q 1-supplier, Voith Turbo are qualified to test themselves all products from testing stage 2 for adherence to the quality requirements. This stage includes for example turbo transmissions and turbo reversing transmissions in diesel locomotives and cooling systems for diesel or electric locomotives as well as for diesel rail-cars.

This offers a massive advantage. The quality standards examining board of DB AG is only needed to go on site in Heidenheim for products of testing stage 1. This testing stage includes Voith final drives. The Q 1 test is carried out on the basis of DIN ISO 9001.

Only very few companies have been granted Q 1-status. By renewing the certification, Deutsche Bahn confirms and acknowledges the continuously high quality of the Voith Turbo products.

The status is also recognised by many other European state railway companies. Consequently, additional qualifications in order to become a Class A supplier in these countries are not necessary.
