Voith Paper: Voith Paper: Roll wrapping and conveying system for Sappi in Belgium Sappi has ordered from Voith Paper a LowPack roll wrapping system with upstream and downstream roll conveying system for its Lanaken mill in Belgium. Lanaken produces coated woodfree and woodcontaining papers in the basis-weight range of 70 to 170 g/m². All rolls produced in Lanaken will be wrapped by this system in the future. The new roll wrapping installation is fully automatic and designed for 120 rolls/hour. It has a total of 10 unwind stations to wrap rolls of 400 to 3,000 mm width and diameters of 600 to 1,500 mm in one step with full width wrapping paper. This LowPack machine - its name refers to the low-height design - has been extensively further developed by Voith on the basis of existing modules and was rated as a "state-of-the-art" system by Lanaken. The outer and inner header disks are placed by industrial robots. The same applies to the labels. For the operation of the machine, only a single operator is required, whose task is to supervise the wrapping process and to replenish header disks. The machine is placed in a separate room for maintaining optimum climatic conditions. The system will be supplied at the end of December 2004. Voith Paper is a division of the Voith Group and one of the leading partners to the paper industry. More than one third of the world's paper production is manufactured on Voith Paper machines. Voith sets standards in paper technology, power transmission engineering, power generation and industrial services. Formed on January 1, 1867, it has a current workforce of approx. 24,000, sales of EUR 3.1 billion and over 180 locations worldwide, and is one of the largest family-owned enterprises in Europe. |
